Sunshine warm
On shoulders bare.
Walking barefoot on moist grass
The smell of lilac and roses wafts.
Closed eyes can see
The colors of the sky
And hear nature's wonderous chatter.
Letting go is release and freedom
From the world.
Heart sings joy.
Mind leaps with wonder and
Silently cries joyful teardrops
That drip upon the ground,
Making flowers bloom.

An illusion remains.

I open my eyes onto
Blackness and dust
That chokes and smothers.
Grayness and silence are all here.
Heart and mind weighed down,
Cry silent teardrops
That fall upon the floor
Making puddles that flood the room.
Reality of life plays once again
And shutters heaven away until
Another day
When to sleep I will surrender.

Reality's illusion calls.
Endure the nightmare of
Day to day
Until the Xanadu of sleep
Once more holds sway.

In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree :
...
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree ;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.
...

Excepts from Kubla Khan (Or, A Vison In a Dream)
by Samuel Taylor Coleridge

This was not at all inspired by Coleridge's poem. I used Xanadu as an alagory or symbol near the end of my poem. After the poem was finished I went back and read Coleridge's poem again and decided to quote from it in my desciption since it seemed to fit. Subconcience inspiration? Naw, I doubt it, but hell, who knows. Actually, when I hear the word "Xanadu" I usualy think of Olivia Newton John! LOL!

The cover is stock from stock.xchng. I did some editing to give it a dream-like quality.

Hi! Was just browsing through the poetry gallery and saw your poem.

I must say, this is one good poem. I particularly like the last stanza because it is the summary of it all. Yeah, it's a sick cycle carousel, or something like that.

I just have a comment on the third stanza:

*Heart and mind weighed down,
Cries silent teardrops
That fall upon the floor...*

I dunno, shouldn't it be "cry" as in pertaining to heart and mind? Well, I might be mistaken though.

But all in all, I like this poem. The message, the feeling evoked... it's very beautiful.

Thank you so much! I'm really glad you liked it! I liked your suggestion and I changed the poem to use "cry" instead of "cried". :)

You know people when you do find that somebody
Hold that woman, hold that man
Love him, hold him, squeeze her, please her, hold her
Squeeze and please that person, give 'em all your love
Signify your feelings with every gentle caress
Because it's so important to have that special somebody
to hold, kiss, miss, squeeze and please.....
